3 Ways to Take the Heavy Workload Off Your Shoulders When You’re Running a Small Business

Hey goal-digger, welcome back to the campfire! 🏕️

3 ways to get help

Running a business is not for the faint of heart.

Running a business is not for the faint of heart. It takes hard work, dedication, and a whole lot of time and energy to keep everything up and running smoothly.

If you’re doing it all alone, it can definitely get overwhelming. If you’ve been doing it that way a while, burnout is a feeling you know all-too-well.

But even for a solopreneur, there are ways to take the load off and make it all more manageable. Here are three ways to do just that…

There are ways to take the load off

…but before we jump into it, we need to talk about the elephant in the room.

If you’re anything like me, you think you can do it all. And you do a damn good job trying to!

Just hear me out. While it’s very admirable that you’re a go-getting change maker, it’s not worth it to waste your magic with so many little tasks. In this article, we’ll go over little quick fixes to free up your space… but first, you need to be willing to let go of some of the things you feel like only you can do.

You might be a slave to excellence like I was, but you can’t spend all of your energy worrying about small things. This also goes for trying to do too much, too quickly.

Grow at your own pace so you don’t burn out. Give your mind time to recuperate and let your energy recharge. You’ll actually perform better in less work time than when you work extra hours and exhaust yourself.

Give yourself permission to take a break, or even have fun! (Remember that?) We’re all human, and even Elon Musk needs sleep (I think).

Now let’s get into some ways that you can free up some of your incredibly valuable time and take that much-deserved break.

1. Get back to the drawing board.

Sometimes, you gotta take a step back and reassess your business. Are you focusing on the right things? Are there areas where you can cut back or make improvements? By taking the time to analyze your business and make adjustments where needed, you can streamline your workload and make everything run more efficiently.

Before you jump the gun and decide there’s nothing you can change to be more efficient, do a little research! As a business owner, you should know that research is your friend in more ways than one.

My advice is to start by checking out new software and AI for your business! That might seem trivial at first, but you’ll be surprised to find out what you can do these days at the push of a button.

Check out software like Zapier, and submit some zap searches to be amazed at everything you can do on autopilot! Now, it works with AI to automatically reply to certain types of comments on different social media platforms. You can even use it for some social media scheduling. I also use it to take all my contacts from one platform to my CRM, and back. Honestly, you can do almost anything on autopilot by setting up a “zap”.

I could write a whole encyclopedia about different softwares and AI programs that take tedious tasks off of my work plate, so I just created a comprehensive Resource Library instead. Check it out and browse over 100 different tools and softwares that I use in my business daily. There’s even a post dedicated to each category, so you can find out what you need and how it will help you.

2. Find the right mentor.

Having a mentor who’s been through it all before can be incredibly valuable when running a small business. They can offer guidance, advice, and support when you need it most. Look for someone who has experience in your industry and is willing to share their knowledge with you.

Understand the scope of their expertise, and make sure it’s aligned with your own business goals. Don’t talk to anyone who’s never done what you’re trying to do before!! They won’t be able to help you, even if they are knowledgeable in other areas.

3. Recruit help (It’s easier than you think)!

If you’re like me, you’ll never really think it’s the right time to expand your team, especially if it’s always been just you. I never felt like I was ready to hire help, until the universe basically just made it happen.

When is it the right time for you?

The moment you start wondering how you’re gonna pull all of this off by yourself, is when to start looking for help. Don’t be like me, and wait until you literally have no choice.

You don't have to do everything yourself. Consider hiring part-time or freelance help for tasks that are outside of your expertise or take up too much of your time. You can also outsource certain tasks to companies that specialize in those areas.

And I’m willing to bet that hiring a freelancer’s help or even outsourcing the bulk of your tasks isn’t nearly as costly as you might guess.

Try browsing freelancer sites like Fiverr, Upwork, or Indeed to see what you can actually afford! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Bonus #1: Rely on systems to do your heavy lifting

There are many different tools and software options available that can help automate your business processes, from email marketing to project management. By relying on these systems, you can free up more time to focus on the things that really matter.

Zapier really is a game-changer for online businesses. It connects your favorite apps, allowing them to work together seamlessly. With Zapier, you can create "Zaps," which are workflows that automate repetitive tasks, saving you time and reducing errors. Whether it's integrating your CRM with your email marketing platform, automatically posting new blog content on social media, or sending notifications for new orders, Zapier streamlines your processes and boosts productivity. Say goodbye to manual data entry and hello to more efficient operations with this powerful software on your team.

But that’s just one (in my opinion, the hardest-working) tool of many that I use to automate so much of my work.

If you want to check out our Resources Library that has a comprehensive list of over 100 of this types of tools, head here!

Bonus #2: Be open to new ways of doing business

The business world is constantly changing, and it's important to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies. Be open to trying new things and experimenting with different approaches. You never know what might work for your business!

For example, I’ve never had a personal TikTok, or wanted one for that matter. I’m big on numbers though, and that’s what sold me on having TikTok accounts for my businesses. Say what you want about the platform, but TikTok’s algorithm is unique across all of social media in it’s ability to alow even the greenest newbie go viral without any followers.

For a business, that’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss out on. That’s why, after doing my research, I decided to use the platform with my businesses. And it was definitely a great decision.

More exposure equals more traffic. More traffic means more sales. More sales mean more income that you can put back into your business, so that it works harder for you.

Then you’ll have more time to rest, recuperate, and come up with the next great idea for your biz!
