In the world of online marketing, you may have heard the terms ‘funnel’ and ‘landing page’ thrown around quite a bit. But do you know what they actually mean… or better yet, which one is better suited for your business?

The distinction:

A landing page is a standalone web page that’s designed to convert visitors into leads or customers. It usually contains a form or a call to action that encourages visitors to take a specific action, such as signing up for a newsletter or purchasing a product.

On the other hand, a funnel is a series of interconnected pages that guide visitors towards a specific goal, such as making a purchase or booking a consultation. It may include landing pages, sales pages, and thank-you pages.

Why do you need them?

Both landing pages and funnels are important tools for converting website visitors into customers.

They allow you to target specific audiences with tailored messages and offers, and they can help you improve your conversion rates.

When are they necessary?

Landing pages are particularly useful when you want to promote a specific product or service, or when you are running a targeted advertising campaign.

→   For example, you could build a landing page to promote a new product or service, or to offer something free in exchange for their contact info. Then, you can put them on your subscriber list and stay in their inbox to offer them useful content and promote your brand! This gains trust and builds loyalty with your audience.

Funnels, on the other hand, are more useful when you want to guide visitors through a specific sales process, such as a product launch or a webinar registration.

→   Funnels are instrumental in guiding a new lead through their customer journey as quickly as possible, gaining you more rapid sales. If done correctly, your new leads can go from cold to piping hot in a matter of minutes!

Where do they work best?

Landing pages and funnels can be used for any type of online business, but they are particularly effective on e-commerce sites, service-based businesses, and lead generation sites.

If you want to build landing pages for specific products or services you offer, SamCart is an amazing option for making sales in an online portal. They offer features like single-page checkout, upsells, order bumps, and more. All of those increase your conversion rates and average order value, meaning more profits for your business! SamCart also has amazing courses and tutorials, making it perfect for anyone starting out. With great info and proven sales templates—they make it easy for you to gain success in your biz! You can do this along with an existing website, or standing on its own.

If you’re promoting someone else’s products or services (ex. affiliate marketing), funnels are your bread and butter.

You don’t even need a website to have one! Sites like Clickfunnels offer standalone software to run one or more funnels for separate business goals. I’m a huge fan of systeme.io, because they offer this capability for free, along with a paid version, plus extremely valuable information via free courses!

How can you make one?

It might initially sound crazy to imagine that you can make either one of these with no previous experience or technical knowledge… but it’s not as hard as you might think!

Creating landing pages and funnels can be easy with the help of online tools and software. Just make sure to keep your messaging clear and concise, and to use compelling visuals and copy to encourage visitors to take action.

As I mentioned earlier, my top two standalone funnel building sofware options are Clickfunnels (for a higher budget) and systeme.io (for lower budget or free version). LeadPages is another popular option among digi-preneurs and also works well for standalone funnels.

If you happen to already have a WordPress website, I can’t recommend CartFlows enough. It’s what I personally use with my own businesses, and has endless features and customizations.

→   This option is definitely a bit more complicated than using a standalone software mentioned above, but is definitely the most customizable. If you can think it, there’s a way to do it with CartFlows. There is a free version offered for the CartFlows plugin, but the real magic is in the higher tier packages that give you things like order bumps, cross sells, upsells, dynamic offers, and more.

If you’re uncomfortable jumping right into the software, try checking out an e-commerce course through SamCart, HubSpot, or Systeme.io. Or you can literally find any of this for free on YouTube. All of these are able to teach you the process step-by-step, plus how to write copy that converts your leads into customers!

The key to creating effective landing pages or funnels is to focus on the needs and desires of your target audience.

Before you begin promoting, be sure to do your research. If you need some help, check out this article on how to understand your market and target audience to bring your business sales.

Once you start, use data and analytics to inform your decisions, and test different variations to see what works best.

Stay consistent, and that’s it!
